The comparisons are inevitable.
When Dan Mullen came to Florida in 2018, the Gators QB situation was unstable. Feleipe Franks had been awful in 2017 and some guy named Trask was his backup. Gators fans had suffered through games quarterbacked by Treon Harris, Skyler Morhinweg, Luke Del Rio, Malik Zaire and Austin Appleby.
So it made sense that when Ohio State QB Joe Burrow decided to transfer, maybe he might be a good fit for Florida. Instead, Burrow went to LSU, played average in 2018 but then otherworldly in 2019 and won the Heisman while leading the Tigers to the National Championship.
Flash forward to 2021 and new head coach Billy Napier is coming into a similar situation. While the Gators QB situation is a little bit more stable, presumptive starter Anthony Richardson has been injury prone thus far. Neither Jalen Kitna nor Carlos Del-Rio Wilson have gotten any snaps.
And another Ohio State QB came available in the transfer portal.
This time, that player was Jack Miller. Miller was the 334th ranked player nationally in the 2020 recruiting cycle (89.51 247Sports player rating). That profiles very similarly to Burrow, who was the 280th ranked player in the 2015 recruiting cycle (90.03 247Sports player rating) and also hadn’t played much at Ohio State.
So when Miller committed to Florida earlier in the week, that’s the question I got. Is Miller just being added for depth and competition?
Or is it possible that he’s the next Joe Burrow?
High School Stats
Anybody who’s followed this site for any length of time knows that I put a ton of stock into the stats a QB accumulates in high school.
The reasoning is simple. Stats like completion percentage tell us something about decision-making and reading defenses. And at the collegiate level, you can almost always put the defense in a compromising situation. The question is usually not whether the QB has the arm strength or athleticism to make the play, but whether he can make a decision quickly enough to keep the defense on tilt.
We saw the ramifications of that this year, as Emory Jones has plenty of arm strength and athleticism, but really struggled to get the ball out on time and even sometimes to make a give/keep decision on read-option plays.
But you can’t just look at completion percentage alone. That’s because someone who completes 70 percent of his throws but only averages 7 yards per attempt is artificially increasing that completion percentage due to check downs.
I wrote about Burrow at the time he transferred and pretty much knew he was going to be special. How could I know? Well, look at his high school stats.
Burrow was excellent as a sophomore. He was elite as both a junior and senior. You don’t see stats like this very often at the high school level. Additionally, while Burrow had an extremely limited sample size at Ohio State (39 throws), he completed 74 percent of his throws, indicating that his accuracy might be able to translate.
So what about Miller?
If those stats were reversed, I might be really excited. While his completion percentage wasn’t great any of his four seasons, his freshman season was outstanding, with a good (10.8) yards per attempt average and a 53:15 touchdown to interception ratio. But the problem is that his accuracy didn’t get any better his sophomore, junior or senior seasons.
He and Burrow had almost the exact same number of attempts in their high school careers, but Burrow averaged more than 2 yards per attempt more and completed almost 12 percent more passes than Miller.
Again, the stats for Miller at Ohio State are limited, but in 14 throws, he only completed 7 of them, indicating that accuracy might still be a problem.
The thing that both Burrow and Miller seem to have is similar athleticism. Burrow terrorized defenses in 2019 by being able to slide in the pocket and either extend plays or take off for a first down. You knew that was a skill that he would have because he averaged 5.6 yards per rush in high school, indicating he wasn’t a statue back there.
Despite his size (6’4”, 210 lbs) and classification as a pro-style QB, Miller can move. He averaged 6.0 yards per rush for his high school career and averaged 9.0 yards per rush in his stellar freshman campaign.
Film Study
You never want to look at just stats to determine whether you think someone is a good player or not. Sometimes, guys play through injuries and end up struggling because of it. Other times, players show flashes but just aren’t consistent.
If the comparison we want to make for Miller is Burrow though, I have to say that I just don’t see it.
The thing that impressed me right away about Burrow was his decisiveness. He always knew exactly what he wanted to do based on the coverage and then executed quickly.
You can see that here, as Burrow knows the minute that the linebackers show zone and the defensive end rushes, the tight end will be open in the flat. He wastes zero time getting it out there and a second-and-8 is turned into a third-and-short.
The other thing you saw with Burrow was that the man he threw to was almost always in a one-on-one matchup, and that the ball was put in a position to allow the receiver to run after he caught the ball.
This is just a simple throw over the middle. But Burrow knows that the defense is in a cover-2 defense (by the alignment of the safeties) and he gets rid of the ball the minute he hits his drop. The ball is delivered right on-target, allowing the receiver to spin to the outside.
Now compare that to Miller in the Ohio State spring game last year.
The defense is in a single-high safety look. That means for the route combination Ohio State is running, the slot and outside and corners are in one-on-one coverage. I think this should be a high-low read where if the receiver running the curl is open, you deliver it there. If the slot corner drops too far, you deliver the ball in the flat.
The receiver in the flat is wide open. Instead, Miller checks the ball down across the middle to his tight end. This is an okay play. It might even get a first down. But you’re not going to get explosive plays by coming to this check down against this defense. This isn’t an isolated incident. On the same drive, Ohio State ran the same action and Miller did the exact same thing.
This isn’t a problem if you go through your progressions and come back to your check down. But it becomes a major issue if you stare down your receivers and allow defenders to get a head start.
That’s what happens here. Again, this is a completion to the slot receiver. It ends up being a 7-yard gain and most fans would clap and move on to the next play. But the thing I noticed is that Miller is staring down that slot receiver from the minute he receives the snap. He has his body tilted that way the entire play.
Watch how the middle linebacker starts creeping in that direction before he throws the ball. The ball is also delivered high, which makes the receiver jump and prevents him from turning to the outside. This isn’t all that different from the play I showed with Burrow above.
But had Miller been a tick late getting the ball out, it would have been going the other way for a pick-six. And a little bit more accuracy would have allowed the receiver to gain more yards after the catch.
Takeaway
On the surface, comparisons of Jack Miller to Joe Burrow are reasonable.
Both were Ohio State quarterbacks with similar recruiting profiles. Both couldn’t win the starting job at Ohio State in competitions where the guys they competed against put up huge seasons after winning the job. I mean, C.J. Stroud just was a Heisman finalist and Dwayne Haskins was the 15th pick in the NFL draft. And both have now transferred into the SEC to teams with championship aspirations.
But that’s where the commonalities end.
Burrow was a far more accomplished high school player no matter what stats you look at. And for the stats that I think are important and translate particularly well, Burrow is way ahead. He also had shown in game action at Ohio State a decisiveness on film that made it clear he had a chance to be special.
Miller hasn’t shown that yet, whether it’s looking at his high school statistics or the limited amount of film we have thus far. That doesn’t mean he can’t progress to be a very good quarterback, but the expectation that he can turn into anything resembling Burrow is unfair.
And that’s not just because Burrow produced perhaps the greatest season by a quarterback in college football history in 2019. It’s also that Miller’s job likely is to push current Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson to get better.
Richardson might actually be a better comparison to Burrow. His high school completion percentage prior to getting injured his senior year was 65 percent. He also averaged 11.3 yards per attempt that season. And we’ve all seen how electric he can be when he gets the ball out in open space.
The reality is that were Miller coming from any program other than Ohio State, we wouldn’t make those Burrow comparisons.
Instead, we’d make comparisons like Malik Zaire, who completed 57 percent of his throws in high school and proceeded to complete 58 percent in college. Or perhaps we’d compare him to Jeff Driskel, who completed 59 percent of his throws in high school and completed 61 percent of his throws in college. Or maybe we’d compare him to Deondre Francois, who completed 56 percent of his throws in high school and 59 percent in college.
Zaire, Driskel and Francois all had some level of success at the college level. Driskel almost quarterbacked the Gators to the BCS Championship Game in 2012. But none of those guys were Joe Burrow, or had the potential to be either based on their high school stats.
Neither is Jack Miller. He may end up being a very good quarterback. He may eventually evoke comparisons to somebody better than the three quarterbacks I’ve listed above. But to be honest, I hope he never plays a down at Florida other than mop-up duty.
Because that means Anthony Richardson is starting for the next two seasons.
Gasparilla Bowl
With Richardson out for this one – and Billy Napier not coaching the games yet – I’m not sure there’s a lot to glean from the Gasparilla Bowl against UCF.
Sure, losing to the Knights would increase the noise we hear from Orlando, but who really cares? That’d be similar to if Georgia fans started crowing about championships if the other three teams in the playoff ended up bowing out because of COVID (how stupid is that rule, by the way?).
Instead, I think this is a game where we can appreciate the commitment of some of these players to the program. Nobody deserves that more than Emory Jones.
Jones has had a rough season, no doubt. But through it all, he’s handled himself with class and taken the high road. He could have sulked after Anthony Richardson took over in the second half against LSU and got the start against Georgia. Instead, he rallied the troops to get the Gators bowl eligible.
He could have bailed on his teammates once he knew he was going into the transfer portal. But instead, he’s going to be fighting next to them to try and go out a winner. You can say the same thing about Dameon Pierce and Kaiir Elam, assuming both of those players head to the NFL next year.
As most games have this season, this one will rest on Jones ability to run the ball efficiently. In Florida’s six wins, Jones has averaged 10.6 carries and 8.0 yards per rush. In Florida’s six losses, Jones has averaged 11.4 carries and 3.4 yards per rush.
So I wouldn’t focus too much on total yardage. After all, Jones had 76 rushing yards against Alabama, but it took 19 carries to get there (4.0 yards per rush). Instead, focus on efficiency.
If Jones can average more than 6.0 yards per rush, Florida wins easily. I think that happens.
Florida (-7) wins, 34-17.
Picks this year: 7-4 straight up, 4-7 ATS.

TVD is better than both him and Richardson.
With Joe Brady as OC, TVD will bring the heisman to coral gables.

Dancin’ Dan Mullen
If Florida wins the Gasparilla Bowl 3-2 they’ll be dancing in that locker room.
And if Florida wins the Gasparilla now 70-52 they’ll be dancing in that locker room.
And if Dan Mullen was still coaching them and they lost 29-31 they’ll be dancing in that locker room.
For Dancin’ Dan all victories are moral victories…and all victories are worth celebrating!
LET’S DANCE BABY!! !!!

UF and FSU are scared shitless. They know. Trust me, they have never seen a high octane Miami operating like a top tier college football team. Never, not even when we won, which is why it fell off in the early 2000s. I imagine even Clemson fans are up in arms.
Mullen Failed
Will,
You keep doing this to yourself this year.
I have no clue how you keep picking this Florida team to win.
Dan Mullen had done such an awful job that this team, despite its better record, is worse than Muschamp’s 2013 and Mac’s 2017 teams.
This is the worst Florida team I’ve seen in my life (wasn’t born before 79). Dan Mullen officially solidified himself as the biggest “M”-istake of the 3 big “M”-istakes (Muschamp, MacElwain, Mullen).
Dan Mullen— the Miss State “M”-istake.
After Bama, this was no longer the 2021 team.
Agree. After South Carolina, I’m not sure how anyone would pick this team to beat anyone, including Samford (which they could’ve lost).
Mizzou Will Win
This is the same Gator team that lost to Missouri.
The same Missouri team that lost to Army.

Why did we lose Evers? I have a bad feeling about Napier ever since that.
Mullen Failed
More worried about Gibson and Smith.
Evers is meh. Another Mullen project like Chris Relf and Emory.
No thanks.
Kathryn
Maybe but he’s replaced with Fred Miller……. that’s worse to me.
Mullen Failed
Miller is not worse than Evers. Truth be told it’s hard to say how good either is. But likely Miller is more ready to play now than Evers.
Miller has direct experience at a top cfb program competing with a heisman finalist, the highest rated qb recruit of all time, and another highly regarded qb recruit in McCord. Not to mention, under the tutelage of a real qb whisperer (Ryan Day) in a top notch program that is in better shape than Florida currently (Napier can get us up to speed or in the right direction)
Evers has only played football at a north Texas high school.
Evers might be Better eventually, but there’s no sign either way. Ohio State fans think highly of Miller and hated losing him.
If Evers went to OU under Lincoln Riley, I’d be worried about losing him because Riley is also a real qb whisperer with good taste in qbs. Brett Veneables is a fine DC but came into a tough situation with recruits leaving for USC and decommiting like wild fires so Evers was low hanging fruit to bring into the class.
Miller was recruited by Ryan Day and Urban, two guys who wouldn’t take garbage qbs, whereas Evers was recruited by Mullen, who is infatuated with qbs who can’t throw and likes an offense that can only run effectively if the qb can run.
In other words, Dan Mullen is a moron whose taste in qbs is questionable and should be discounted.
Miller might not end up being great, but I think he and Evers are, at worst, a wash.
Relentless Effort
I doubt it Kathryn.
Evers was hand picked by Mullen, a major red flag.
I lost complete confidence in Mullen once Franks went down and I saw how awesome Trask was. Should have been playing all along!
After Bama, this was no longer the 2021 team.
The problem with Mullen was his loyalty to individuals, coaches and players. IMO I would think most of Gator Nation would have been content letting AR15 ride the starting position this year, given he was healthy, and let the chips fall where they may as far as record is concerned. He is an athletically-gifted kid, no doubt about it. To assume that Jack Miller is going to come in and ride the #2 spot, after being the #2 at OSU, is a bit of an assumption. The competition in that position group just ramped up heavily and I would think CBN is going to play the best 11. Whether that’s AR15 or Miller will obviously be a talking point for the next 9+ months. Assume nothing at this point.
Fire Dan Mullen
Evers sucks just like Mullen did.

Make no mistake, this was about as embarrassing a loss as Georgia Southern. Mullen fkked us soooo bad. Guess the good thing is we have a 3 game series with Disney U coming, we can exact an brutal revenge on them for this. I’ve never hated a coach more than I do Mullen, and will shtt on his name for the rest of eternity, then come back from the grave to shit on him some more.
Mullen Failed
I like SS hire of BN however I wished he had canceled the bowl for it really served no good purpose. We had lame really lame duck coaches who were not going to be retained, so what good was extra practices when the schemes will be different next year. Frankly, the sooner these lame lame duck coaches were gone the better. I know this is a mute point but venting is therapeutic.
At least the stench is now gone and a brighter day is ahead.

All I have to say is FUCK DAN MULLEN

Without a doubt this program is in worse shape now than 4 years ago when Mullen came in. He nearly killed this program. Hopefully Billy can bring it back to respectability and greatness.

I’d rather have Muschamp than Mullen. At least he could recruit and put together elite defenses.
Mullen can’t put anything good together, not even good locker room dances after barely beating fcs teams.

Dan Mullen is a fauci puppet. Over 100,000 dead from the “Jab” and many more incoming as They make up new variants to scare people into getting more Jabs and Boosters. Pretty soon you’re going to have to wear masks on Zoom calls unless you have 4 booster shots.
Speaking of boosters, Deion Sanders pulled the biggest 5 star #1 overall recruit to go to an fcs school in Jackson motherfuckin’ mississippi! Dude used his leverage to get boosters outside of the traditional JSU booster network to pony up for some NIL cash. He is a genius. Florida should heavily consider hiring coach PrimeTime.

Alright guys, advice time.
So a couple weeks back I was kinda down about a lot of work stress and some of my usual date/sex partners was kinda slowing down on me.
So I went to a bar one evening after work to chill.
Met this girl who was celebrating her birthday with friends. Ukranian-born pawg with a thick accent.
We get to talking over a drink and it turns out shes a local who lives only a few blocks from the spot and my job.
I get her number and she basically tells me im invited to come over and fukk her before during or after work whenever.
She let it rock a couple days after. Saw her after work. Sex was amazing. Ole girl a former ballet dancer (of course) and a freak. Flexible, toned body, craves every position. All that.
She tells me im “very lucky” every time we see each other. Thinking she just feeling herself a lil. But a couple weeks later we are relaxing having some beers and dinner in her apartment before I have to go to work. She opens up about her life and reveals to me that she is a professional foot fetish model and a dominatrix. She swears she only allows clients to touch her from the knees down. No intercourse. No oral sex. Nothing more. Says she hopes I understand but I can always walk away.
With that said she also wants to introduce me to her other dominatrix foot model friends. Says I can “play with them” but no “cheating.”
I have no desire to build a relationship here. My woman gotta be a black woman. Shes a good fukk buddy so far and nothing more.
brehs, old heads and fiends, would you let this rock?
Taggart?
This is the thing that has me worried.
The Bears know that they done fucked up. They may really just try to play the big name hype game. They may bring in a Day or Harbough or some name that triggers nostalgia, like potentially making Trace Armstrong president of football operations. In other words, they may try to bring in style over substance.
I am hoping that we get a head coach that is going to be a head coach.
In order, I am thinking:
1.) Raheem Morris
2) Bubba Ventrone
3.) Nathaniel Hackett
I am intrigued by Toub.
So, though they are far from sexxxy picks that make you drool, at least Morris would eke out 10 wins next season with this team.

That’s one way to freelance! 90 Day Fiancé alum Stephanie Matto has been supplementing her income — and her method is certainly unique.
The reality star, 31, went viral after she claimed in a Tuesday, December 14, YouTube video that she’s made nearly $100,000 selling her farts in jars. “I think the moment that I knew, like, ‘Wow, I’ve really made it,’ was when Lance Bass from ‘NSync commented on my jarred farts TikTok,” the Before the 90 Days alum said the video. “P.S., Lance — if you’d like a jar for free, I’d love to send you one, so just let me know. Slide in the DMs.”
Last month, the TLC personality posted a TikTok video about “the day in the life of a girl who sells her farts in a jar.” In the post, which currently has more than 6.7 million views, Matto detailed the diet she uses to encourage flatulence, including protein shakes, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt and beans. She also explained that she adds flower petals to each jar because she believes they hold the scent well.
“I have perfected my craft,” Matto said on Tuesday. “I kind of feel like I am the Einstein of fart jars at this point, because I’ve figured out the perfect formula for making the most in the least amount of time but also causing me the least amount of pain.”

Meet Victoria of Irving know throughout DFW as the doorknob for the right price. She is what they call a sexcretary because she gives great dictation. I interviewed her for a job in my office and she literally propositioned me that she would show me her dictation skills on the spot. I am a older man happily married and would never cross the line. I called some of her previous employers and every one of them warned me that she had slept with all the men in the office she worked and created so many problems and broke up so many marriages and she filed sex harassment lawsuit when she was the center of all these problems. She will come off as girl next door but she is as evil and manipulative as you will ever come across. Be careful with this she devil!

Mack Brown is my hero
So, as many of you know, Antwan Cobb is a good friend of mine. He’s like a little brother to me. Well he and I have another good friend, Sean Hearn, who is like a big brother to me. Right now Sean is currentloy in Austin until the 18th, on his R&R. He serves as part of the 130th CST, and has been in Iraq for the last 6 months, fighting for our country. Sean is from Pflugerville, but as lived in a few places growing up. But no matter where he’s been, he’s always been a Longhorn. On Memorial Day 2007, Sean’s fiancee at the time had a broither fighting in the war. Kile G. West was killed in action. This moved Sean Hearn to do something about it, and join the US Army. Sean went to Basic Training, left as the Honor Grad, and is now a Combat Engineer, basically a bodyguard for Lt.Cl’s over seas.
Well, with Sean back in town, Antwan wanted to something special for him. So Antwan arrangeed for Sean, myself, and another friend to take a tour of all of the UT facilities. This was arranged last Saturday, after the game. Anyone who sat in or near section 31 may have seen all of us cheering our asses off for the Horns, and for Antwan. So Twan decided to give us a little treat. Now, I have been around the facilites quite a bit, but I had never been to many of the places which were shown to me yesterday. Another thing I had never seen, was people like Tony Jeffrey, Ken Rucker, Jordan Shipley, Tray Allen, and Sam Acho, looking at a man with such admiration and thanks. Everyone who me met who was affiloated with the program showed so much unbelievable respect and thanks for what Sean is doing, it was moved. He and I were moved to tears a few times yesterday.
So towards the end of our tour, after seeing Ricky and Earl’s shrines, the MNC trophies, Mad Dog’s office, and even The Correction Room, a bubble connected Moncrief-Newhaus, where Sean ran the 40, overlooking a scenic downtown Austin, Antwan led us to the coaches’ offices. As we went back in that area, we were met by7 Mack’s receptionist, a very kind woman, who treated us like Kings. Once Twan told her that Sean was here from Iraq, she said, “Hold on a second, let me see if Coach Brown is around.” This was amazing, bnecause if you only knew how Sean fells about Mack Brown, your heart would fill with joy. She walked us into his office, and started showing us around. She showed us a Medal of Honor which was given to Mack by a WWII Vet. She showed us all of his rings, even asking us if we’d like to wear Mack’s NC ring. (um, hell yes). She showed us Earl’s Heisman, and some more UT related war memorabilia. Right around that time is when we heard that voice.
Mack Brown, who had zero idea that this tour was even going on just 5 minutes ago, walked into his office and acted as if we had had an appoinment with him which was set months ago. This man is 100% real and genuine. He came in shook everyon’es hand, and looked us in the eye. He called us by name for the entire half hour or so that we were in there. We all kept feeling like this man’s time was so important that we needed to hurry up and leave, but Mack simply would not let us. I can’t tell you how many times Mack said, “Wait, before you guys leave, I want to show you this.” He acted as if we were long lost pals, reuniting for the first time in ages.
At one point, after saying that, he walked over near his desk and opened a door. Antwan’s eyes got wide, and he said, “Wow, I’ve never even been in this room.” Mack took us into the coaches room, where they all get together and gameplan, and make the big decisions. Sean walked over to take a picture in a seat, and Mack told Sean where he sat. Sean immediately got up and walked over to Mack’s chair. Watching him soak up that moment was awesome. After my buddy and I also sat in the chair, and after some more conversation, we were ready to leave, already on cloud nine. That’s when Mack looked at Sean and said, “Sean, take a picture in my chair at my desk.” “Coach, are you sure?” “Have a seat Sean.” You should have heard when Kirkendoll and Tray found out that we got to sit in that chair. It was epic.
All in all, yesterday was without a doubt one of the best days of my life, and of Sean’s life as well. We were on cloud 11 for the rest of the night. You always see Mack on TV, and maybe some of you have even scored a few seconds of solo time with him. But spending a good half hour with this man in his office, having him treat us like royalty, like family, was just unbelievable. Mack Brown is an amazing man, and an even better human being, and yesterday is a day that none of us involved, not even Antwan, will ever forget. Hook Em Mack. You are my hero, along with my big bro Sean.

Mullen at State was like the fat kid on the playground. Teams could look physically dominate against the lower 2/3 of the SEC but when he ran into the big bullies got slapped around. Gas price were considerably lower under the Trump administration because he favored domestic oil production over using OPEC oil. He was not detoured from this policy of American oil independence by the tree huggers of the Democratic party, who have hijacked Biden and his energy policy.
Don’t even try to argue that point or I will just say you are injudicious on this topic. If the prices were moderately higher, you might have an argument but gas prices are up approximately 30% nationwide. Short of a fundamental change in policy or a global increase in demand this would not happen.

As for AR15 I seriously don’t think he’s as injury prone as everyone makes him out to be. Had the concussion but was cleared to play in “emergency situation” Knee injury was largely in part of a torn meniscus he was dealing with since high school if I remember the article currently. Other then Dan Mullen saying AR15 is injured I can’t actually believe Dan Mullen with that statement. He favored EJ over AR15. I think with the knee surgery and rehab and some good competition in the QB spot, I think AR15 is gonna have a healthy and productive season in 2022.

I said last year (when I was not yet in the despise Mullen crowd), that it was time for him to go. My turn came during shoegate. To allow Wilson to be a captain and start in the SECCG was game over for me. The team was not prepared for the bowl game, not interested and that looked like a reflection of their head coach. His flirtation with the NFL should have been the end and we should have mutually agreed to end the contract right there. Sure, all coaches look. There had been rumors of Riley, Day, Kelly etc about NFL. That was mostly agent talk, as the coaches seemed very interested in the jobs they had. Until they didn’t. 🙂 Mullen looked miserable and never did anything to downplay the rumors. His recruiting reflected his demeanor, which was never his strength. His loyalty to a system that did not recruit well, did not coach well and a full season of players out of position and not set up for success should have been the end game.
Like many, I had low expectations but high hopes for last nights game. You can talk all day about playing for pride, auditioning in front of the new staff, playing for an NFL tryout, etc. All of that comes back to heart, determination and effort. There is so many things that can be said about the last four years from a positive and a negative standpoint. I am going to talk a little about last night but what I foresee going forward.
The good:
Dameon Pierce. His attitude, effort and heart make him one of my all-time favorite Gators. His ability is pretty damn good too. Just to give you a little comparison. Mike Gillislee was 5’11, 210 pounds. Avg was around 5.3 yards a carry and his senior year had 244 carries for 1152 yards. Drafted late (5th rd), he played for 6 years in the NFL. Pierce is a little shorter at 5’10”, but never got more than 106 carries in a season. I think he has a chance to have as good or better of a pro career. He is a great representative of UF.
We have some potential players on defense that could really develop with good coaching. I think Williams, Hopper, Marshall, Collier, Umanmielen, Borders, Black and even Torrence could be very good next year. Dexter could be an All-American.
On offense, there is talent at tailback. Hoping Wright comes back healthy and Bowman gets his opportunity.
If AR can fix his gait and stay healthy, he could be really special with good coaching.
We have a coaching staff being built around three things: Talent evaluators, relationship builders (i.e. recruiting) and focus on fundamentals. This has me really excited!
The bad: Oh, where to start!
Glaring holes on both sides of the ball
A coaching staff that…….well they are now gone so that is good.
Virtually everything about last night’s game, which was a microcosm of the season.
Relying on a qb to make decisions when that is not his strength was concerning. To give him the ball to carry when Malik and Dameon were running so well was terrible. To let him throw 36 times when he was throwing off his back foot all night and leaving his receivers out to dry was both foreshadowing and horrific. From the first quarter, he was going to get a receiver hurt with his dangerous throws.
Our special teams were anything but special. Our receivers struggled to get open and supposedly our best blocker at receiver refused to block.Again, playcalling was questionable at best. We had 4 different plays where there was a wide open receiver that would have made the scoreboard look very different, but it seems our offense was scramble, screen or deep ball. The defense of UCF dared us to throw. We ran when there was 8 men in the box and threw when there were 6 db’s on the field.
The ugly:
Staff. There wasn’t a single position that I thought looked good last night except running back and I give all the credit there to DP and Malik. There is talent at lb and db. I have not seen the talent develop though which is on the coaches. To be that undisciplined is disgusting. I am not going to call out the players by name, but there are SERIOUS upgrades needed at multiple positions.
Playing kids in the transfer portal. Unless these kids are seriously considering staying (which makes the announcement of entering the portal concerning), sit them and play the kids that want to be here. Honestly, no matter how badly some might feel about Kitna or Del Rio, do you think they would have gone worse than 14-38? Would they have thrown 9 different passes that could have gotten their receivers killed and one that has a terrific young man in the hospital awaiting surgery? Of the 10 receivers and 5 te’s on the roster, you can’t justify to me putting Copeland out there.
When the game is meaningless, you play the guys who give the best effort and you get the freshman some reps. What is ugly was both seeing guys get reps and wondering why this is the first time we really have seen them and seeing others who clearly needed more time so they were prepared/ready to go. There are 69 freshmen and sophomore on the roster (including walk ons). 27 of which who could be meaningful contributors. It remains to be seen how many of them will still be on the roster this time next year, but I think it is imperative we keep at least 20 of those. Again, not naming names as to which ones I am fine with leaving.
Sticking with prior comment, the discrepancy in positions of the above 27 or how few of the 69 are at the level is ugly.
Shorter’s injury. So unnecessary. All game long throws were high and leaving the receivers exposed. I feel so badly for him. Obviously the primary concern is getting back to normal life situations like being able to walk and move. I think Shorter had NFL potential. Praying for a full recovery for this terrific young man.
Attempting a 51 yard kick and a 45 yard kick from Howard? Knox was his position coach all year. He should know what his range is.
From a roster perspective, we are going to drop a bit in talent next year. The holes will be more glaring. Hopefully, fundamentals coaching and playing/developing the talent on the roster will be enough to get us to 8 wins. Anything above that is gravy.
Future outlook:
I don’t think the future is as gloomy as it appeared during the game last night. We are building what might be one of the 4-5 best staffs I have seen at Florida. Just have to finalize a few contracts. We have NFL potential on next years roster at qb, rb (possibly), dline, lb, db and possibly Crawshaw. We signed a few recruits that are extremely talented. I think the right coaches with the right buy in and next year will be seen as progress. Year 2 under CBN may not be quite the bump that most coaches see because of the talent deficit compared to what some coaches inherited, but I do believe he is the right man for the job who will step on some toes that need it and develop the talent pool to compete for rings.

Copeland was caught outside the hotel smoking weed and was still allowed to play in the game. He was the absolute biggest problem in the locker room. He wasn’t the only problem tho. Expect to see quite a few transfer notes in the next few weeks. We can still salvage next season if Billy hits the portal right but he is getting ready to clean house.

I appreciate your honesty Will, but you discredit K2 as you make a case for him being a HCOTY candidate. Not sure if it is just a fan base that is programmed to expect the wheels to fall off or they bought into the skeptics like Ryan of K2 and his offense being a joke.
FLCF and a few others have made a case for the offense scheme. It has been even fewer that have defended K2 when many of the game time errors were more players failure to properly execute a play or make a correct read. K2 like many new coaches has had clock management mishaps. The huge improvement from previous coaches in AZ was the forcing square pegs into round holes. K2 is a players coach not only how he protects vets and superstars from too much practice, but he is willing to bring in new players in order to find the starting line up and best depth players. Like Jimmy Johnson not all players are treated the same.
K2 rarely loses his emotions although you can see it in his face from time to time. Seems to be more of a coach driven by solutions rather than driving a narrative. The NFL spotlight isn’t too bright for him. With all the nepotism and recycling of coaches he is a refreshing change from the establishment.
Although I call you out about your underlying negative prejudice towards K2 it is good of you to start a thread like this. It will be interesting to see if Kliff outlasts K1 in AZ they are tied together, but I believe Kliff could be a several decade coach based on what you pointed out in team stats previous to K2 vs team stats with him. Could there be a Cardinal way in the future where players do their job? Keep up the good work keeping us fans informed

It’s fascinating how fast Mullen went downhill. The best team he ever had was one he didn’t coach (MSU 2018). He was still likely on a slight upward trajectory at MSU, started OK at UF, and then just collapsed. With his personality, I wouldn’t be surprised if he is unwilling to take a coordinator job. He may have to wait until a languishing program needs to take a chance on him.
Fire Dan Mullen
Mullen has the personality of weird 15 minute cartoon character from Adult Swim. He couldn’t convince Cam Newton (look at his offers out of JUCO) to come to Mississippi State without paying him (& don’t say Auburn paid more proven false ad nauseam). Tells you a lot about his character & ability to recruit.
Mullen Failed
The numbers that forever define the Dan Mullen era at Florida aren’t 3 New Year’s 6 bowls, or 29 wins in his first 3 seasons.
The numbers that overwhelmingly explain 4 years in Gainesville are simple and telling: 14-of-36 for 171 yards and no touchdowns.
That’s the stat line for Gators quarterback Emory Jones in a bowl game loss to UCF.
That’s the line of a quarterback who signed with Mullen 4 years ago, who was developed by the noted “quarterback guru” over 5 spring practices (15 practices each), 3 sets of bowl practices (15 practices each) and 4 regular seasons (20 hours a week maximum during the season).
All that coaching, all that time invested in preparing a quarterback to play at the highest level of college football, translated to Jones completing 38% of his passes in a loss to UCF.
This is what Billy Napier is walking into as coach at Florida.
Now, the hammer: This isn’t just a quarterback problem. It’s a roster problem.
“We recruited with no home base, no foundation of what we were looking for,” a former Florida staffer told me. “The prevailing idea from the top down was we’re not begging players to come here.”
That’s how you end a 4-year coaching run at an SEC blue blood with 2 transfer portal starters on the interior of the defensive line.
That’s how you end a 4-year run with an offensive line that never got better, and at one point in the 2021 season, had 9 false start penalties in one game. The same line that, on the first play of the bowl game, was flagged for — wait for it — a false start.
That’s how you end a 4-year run with no receiver on the roster with deep speed to stretch defenses.
That’s how you follow the historically worst season in the history of defense at Florida in 2020, with an offense tied for last in all of college football with 18 interceptions in 2021.
When you have no recruiting identity, everything suffers because nothing is a priority. There is no rhyme or reason to how and why things fail.
They just fail.
“You know how many times I heard, ‘We’ll address that in the (transfer) portal,’” another former Florida staffer told me. “You’re the flagship university in the best state (for recruiting) in the country. You don’t need the portal for anything.”
You do when you have no recruiting identity, when there’s sporadic interest in recruiting from the head coach – and that attitude filters down to assistants and other personnel staffers. Whether you like it or not, high school players like to be wooed.
They like to be told they’re everything, and there’s nothing more critical to the success of your program. They like to feel important, and they want to know why you – and not someone else – is their direct path to the NFL.
So when the staff’s attitude – trickled down from the head coach — is take the next guy who wants to play for us instead of working harder on the better player, you end up with an implosion on multiple fronts.
Want to know why it went from 29 wins in 3 years under Mullen to the Gators’ worst SEC record since 1979? Because poor recruiting – and recruiting habits — finally caught up to the program.
Those things can’t be overcome in Year 1 of a new staff – no matter how efficient and proficient the staff.
This is what Billy Napier inherited. It will likely get worse before it gets better.
A quick look on the surface of the recruiting classes at Florida under Mullen, and the implosion doesn’t make sense.
In 4 years under Mullen, Florida’s average class ranking was No. 11 according to the 247Sports composite. But look closer at the final 2 years under Mullen, when his philosophy was engrained among the staff.
The Gators finished No. 9 in the nation in 2020, and No. 12 in 2021. But those class rankings are wildly deceptive.
“Both of those years, we were adding guys late that we probably shouldn’t have,” the former Florida staffer said. “We’d lose on guys, then scramble for Plan B’s that may have those stars, but that we knew didn’t make sense for us, and may not make it for one reason or another.”
At this point, 2 years into their careers, there isn’t one impact player from the 2020 class. QB Anthony Richardson has the potential to be an elite player but hasn’t been able to stay healthy – and frankly, couldn’t win the job from Jones, who threw more interceptions than any Power 5 quarterback.
The No. 1 player in the class was 5-star DT Gervon Dexter, the same player Mullen and his staff recruited over before this season with 2 defensive tackles from the transfer portal (Daquan Newkirk, Antonio Valentino).
The most productive player in the class (S Rashad Torrence II) was ranked 335th in the nation by 247Sports.
The 2021 class, all of whom would’ve played as freshmen this season, had one player – one – with any playing time of significance: DB Jason Marshall.
That’s back-to-back recruiting classes ranked in the top 12 in the nation that produced minimally for the program. That’s either recruiting or development – or both.
Want to know why it looked so ugly in the Gasparilla Bowl? Because after all the opt outs and injuries, Florida was left to rely on those same players who had contributed little over the past 2 seasons.
Poor recruiting, poor player development. A recipe for a disastrous fall from New Year’s 6 bowls to a spot ahead of only Vanderbilt in the SEC East.
With a recruiting class of 10, what you saw on the field at Raymond James Stadium last weekend is essentially the team you will see on the field for Florida in 2022 when Utah comes to Gainesville to open the season with 15 starters (and star QB Cameron Rising) returning from a Pac-12 Championship team.
That will put extra incentive on development, and specifically, a new coaching staff developing players they didn’t recruit.
There’s no guarantee that Richardson, who looked brilliant in spots this season, will stay healthy the entire 2022 season – and more important, reach his potential (that’s why Napier signed Ohio State transfer QB Jack Miller).
There are no receivers on the roster who can scare defenses. The 5-star tailbacks Mullen recruited from the transfer portal (Lorenzo Lingard, Demarkcus Bowman) failed to beat out the 3 running backs who have played the past 2 seasons.
This is a program in transition, a program in desperate need for a vision and identity at player procurement. Napier is deep into hiring a personnel department and assistant coaches, and his plan is identical to the one Nick Saban uses at Alabama.
The personnel department identifies players, and then position coaches, coordinators, area coaches and the head coach recruit the players. Evaluation first, recruit second.
There’s no wasted time, no mistake in what the program identifies as players of interest.
“We’ve refined the process over the years,” Napier said. “Everyone has to be on the same page.”
That will be a first at Florida since a guy named Urban roamed the sidelines.

Maybe Dan was banking on being thr Jags OC next season and that’s why he didn’t put in any effort in this year. too bad ole urban couldn’t even make it a year in the NFL lmao.

NO!!!!!
This “film” seems to be just more propaganda BS for the masses, though. Imagine being so smooth-brained as to not recognize how Hollywood enjoys making the audience look like moronic fly-over state dwellers, while feeding them partisan rhetoric that aids in bleeding them dry of their hard-earned fiat dollars in the name of “entertainment”. I have been hearing about climate change for almost 50 years…..guess what… NONE of the predictions have come anywhere close to occurring. But, sure….keep following “the stars” & the “1 percenters” while they prop up & shill for the newest tax scam that is being pushed, so that they can continue to rob us blind.
Taggart?
Seriously though, frick anyone who refuses to get a vaccine because they listen to Aunt Trudy on Facebook, Fox News and Joe Rogan
Taggart?
aTm should administer some Pfizer-mectin and go play ball. COVIDs is the largest fraud ever perpetuated on mankind. The virus is real, the severeness is way overstated.
NO!!!!!
Nobody has a fully developed immune system. If we did we wouldn’t get sick, and we would never need vaccinations.
I’m guessing you must be speaking only towards the ability to develop antibodies etc. But being exposed to many things is what builds up your immune system and strengthens it. That’s how old school vaccines worked. You get exposed to the dead virus, your body learns to produce what it needs to kill it, and then it’s no longer a threat to you.
That’s how natural immunity works as well, you get the virus, you fight it off and then your body knows to deal with it.
And those can work across multiple strains/virus. Like when they gave people cowpox purposefully because it provided immunity to smallpox, which was deadly.

Calm down, Karen. What would a booster shot have done for them, when they don’t prevent catching or spreading covid?
You think everyone should have to get a booster shot every few months to fight what is slightly worse than the common cold, a booster shot that still doesn’t prevent contracting or spreading the virus at all?
What’s the endgame there? Booster shots for the rest of everyone’s lives because they don’t work to wipe out the virus, only make the symptoms a little less severe? Covid will last forever if we try to “booster shot” our way out of it.
I’d say *you’re* the “magat” and the real plague by not realizing that this half-baked booster plan has no ending, only a continuous cycle of shots and variants, more shots and more variants.
You clearly aren’t the deepest thinker though, an adult calling others “magats”
Fire Grantham, Mullen, AND Sticklin!
But it does mean these covid-19 vaccines are bull shite.
Here is the deal: The SARS-COV2 virus is a large RNA virus so it doesn’t take much for a mutation to occur.
The mRNA vaccines only target the spike protein. So when vaccinated with these so called vaccines, all your body “sees” is the spike protein that the mRNA shot made your own body produce. One single mutation that changes the spike protein in the virus in the slightest makes these vaccines useless.
And they didn’t see this coming? Again, I must call bull shite. Because ALL Corona viruses start in the animal kingdom and once in the human kingdom, they usually mutate themselves out of existence. It is why we don’t have SARS-COV1 or MERS pandemics going on right now. The point is, they have a history of rapid mutation!
With natural immunity, your body “sees” the WHOLE virus instead of just the spike protein. So your natural immunity is MUCH more likely to protect you from a mutated virus. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it must be a duck kind of thing. These so called mRNA vaccines can NEVER duplicate that.

Many athletes took the Johnson and Johnson single dose vaccine and never followed up with boosters. J&J was proved to be not as effective from the start at stopping people from getting Covid-19 but still prevented serious illnesses.
It has been established by anyone listening that it would not prevent getting the Covid and surely not the newest variant.
Glossed over media stuff is BS too. People that use this say vaccines dont’ work don’t have any idea how vaccines even work.
It takes a series of 4 shots for Polio vaccine, and small pox? 2 shots separated by 4 weeks and every 3 years after that if you go where it’s still active.
Covid Vaccines are no different. It does not last forever and with the new strains it certainly won’t keep working forever either but as most strains come along they will naturally become less deadly so vaccinations will become less and less a need for everyone.
The flu vaccine is an every year thing and lots of people take them but they only range in effectiveness from 40-70% in a given year. Some won’t take it but to say they don’t help is a lie.
Ed Herm
Follow the $$$$ Vaccine = $20 a person Anti-body treatment = $1500 to 1800 per dose and some take multiple doses. Hospital stay can run into the $1000’s and very few vaxxed every get hospitalized
If for nothing other than $$$ you should get the vaccine.
But don’t trust me, go see a real infectious disease doctor and get off the internet for medical advice.

Corona isn’t a flu virus. The Corona viruses are FAR larger RNA virus. It is a COMPLETELY different animal. I invite you to read up on it. A single mutation to the MUCH smaller flu virus changes it by a much larger percentage making it much harder for our immune systems to recognize a new flu strain. This is the reason you have to have a flue shot every year because they take an educated guess as to which strains will be in the wild ever year. And sometimes they guess wrong.
The mRNA vaccines are only targeting the spike protein. The are NOT presenting a full picture of the virus to your immune system. Period. Therefor cannot be as effective as a traditional vaccine. And they are proving that every day now. In fact, they should not even be called vaccines! Go read upon that little side story. Also, the mRNA tech was never successful in any animal study for the SAME exact reasons. Again, don’t take my word for it. Read up on it.
I had COVID a year an a half ago. Since then, I have had 7 serologic tests (I gave blood for convalescent plasma and they tested each time) that showed both IGM and IGG antibodies scoring over 300 each for the original Alpha strain. Meaning I have had NO “breakthrough” infections of Delta or Omicron. A year and a half!!! THAT is what natural immunity does, folks. And I have been living life like normal since I was infected. I have gone to many so called “super spreader” events too. And I don’t wear a fricking mask either. If you can still smell a fart with a mask on, good luck with that covid thing!!!

Reverse transcriptase-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) is the primary method used to diagnose SARS-CoV-2 infection and many other viruses. The test works by creating copies of viral genetic material in respiratory samples over many cycles. A single copy of viral RNA can be amplified to more than 2 trillion copies during a typical 40-cycle testing protocol. Amplification of genomic sequence is measured in cycle thresholds (Ct) and the Ct values correlate with whether a sample contains infectious virus particles. If the viral RNA is detected after just a few amplification cycles (i.e. at a low Ct value), that means high RNA levels are present and thus more viable virus; however, because this test is designed to be a sensitive diagnostic tool (not for monitoring disease progression), a very high Ct value (low RNA level) is set as a positive range cutoff. This means that very low levels of the RNA or viral genomic fragments can test “positive” for months after the acute infection but are not associated with live virus. This detection issue is common for other RNA viruses.
Relentless Effort
this has been the most bizarre season in school history. Forgetting the politics and just reporting the facts:
– State employees must be vaxxed.
– Our coach chose to fire himself by not getting vaxxed. Almost half the staff, and most of the offensive staff, went with him. This was at mid-season.
– Our DC was named HC. He has 95+% alum approval at this point from what I can see; a good leader. Because we are one of the few teams that use the run n shoot offense, June Jones (father of that offense, who did not want to see it go down in flames) called a couple of buddies and they got on a plane to Pullman to help out as offensive assistants to the one lead offensive coach who got vaxxed and stayed. Their help was critical. Don’t often see temp coaches, but we have two. Filled out the rest of the staff by promoting quality control and grad assistant guys.
– We played BYU 5 days later (after the firing/new coach appointment) and lost by a missed extra point.
– Since then the team has been through a real maturity process and has gained ground every week. Good team leadership.
– We closed the season by pounding Washington. Largest margin of victory in program history. There are no sweeter words to a Coug fan.
– And now you guys have come through so that both teams get a season ending game. I’m really happy about this, and the suggestion earlier in the thread that we wager apples against cherries is a great idea! Thank you for stepping up! I’m looking forward to a good game. I wish that 3 of our best players had not opted out of the bowl game to avoid pre-draft injuries…and one other starter is hurt and may not play. Still, people have been stepping up all year. Our guys are just like your guys; they just want to play.

Back in the day, I used to “Get Loose on the Palouse!”. After graduating from CMU, I worked on my Masters in Geography at the University of Idaho, which in athletics was looked upon by WSU as their Little Brother.
At any rate, we would sometimes go to “My Office” in Pullman as a respite from all the 19 and 20-year olds drinking in Moscow, as the legal age was 21 in Washington and 19 in Idaho.
Back to the sports front, I happened to live there during the years that Don Monson’s Idaho basketball teams ran rough-shod over George Raveling’s squads. They also had annual tussels with Gonzaga, before the Bulldogs became THE ZAG(GERNAUT)S.
I will always have a soft spot for the Pacific Northwest and have written six editions of an outdoor guidebook focused on the region (1982 through present).
But come Sun Bowl time, I’ll be rooting for the Chippewas, thick and thin. Hoping for an entertaining game and one that gives CMU positive outlook nationally. Lastly, I’ve been to the Sun Bowl stadium. Set aside desert mountains, it’s one of the most impressive football facilities, landscape-wise, in the nation.

Excited to see how our new oline matches up against the CMU defense. As stated earlier, WSU has a few guys not playing so I’m excited to see the potential new starters go up against a great opponent!
Also, sounds like CMU has a great offense and a strong running game!
Can’t wait to see if we can put a stop to that production.
Much respect to CMU stepping up and playing WSU. Gotta be excited for all the young men and coaches getting a chance to finish the season on their terms.
Go COUGS!
And ya, it’s Wazzu, to spell it different means you’re either **** or a Husky. Not much difference but just trying to keep you from looking like an idiot.
3 players will not play as they are getting ready for the draft. RB, RT, and Corner
We have a dynamic QB, he is special. After he commited to WSU he was offered by USC and Ohio State, but stayed here. He just has it.
Inside WR are really good, fast as heck and our 2nd back is also not much of a drop off from the one not playing.
Defense is fast, scary fast and might be the in the 5 in takeaways in the nation I think. The D line is undersized but can flat run The ends are tough to keep out ans they play a ton of them MLB #13 is a stud
FG kicker is very good was 1st team all Pac 12.
This team could very easily be 9-3 and with all the crap that went on this year for them to be 7-5 and bowling is truly amazing. WSU is playing really good FB right now.

For those of you who don’t know, Tom Tuttle from Tacoma (Washington) was a character played by the late, great John Candy in the B movie Volunteers (with Tom Hanks). In it he sings the WSU fight song, and helps blow up a bridge that he helped build for the Peace Corps.
Fascinating tidbit: Candy was a part owner of the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL. WSU alum and former coach Mike Levenseller was an assistant coach in 1991 when they went to the Gray Cup with Rocket Ismal as a weapon. Candy would sneak up behind Levenseller and sing the WSU fight song.
Anyone else think Coach Prime could be a good option?
Trade Randle, Burks, Noel, Kemba and Fournier and see what the kids got, thats what a lot of teams do, we’ve never done it.
RJ looks 100x better playing with the bench guys when the offense isn’t Randle-centric and we’re more run and gun. Obi looks so good when we run a fast pace offense too. IQ has been running PG pretty well this year, and he can run and gun too.
Randle is the problem, and all these vets too just clogging up minutes for the young guys.
Not all of the young guys may be good, but they all haven’t gotten a fair shake. Obi gets pulled off one mistake even when he’s playing well. RJ is stuck playing off ball with Randle and his slow offense. IQ looked better before Rose was here(and I love Rose, but him and IQ seem to not truly work well together, they just take turns off the bench), Knox seemed like he sucked, but recently looked half decent and we’ve still never let him run the PnR like we did in the summer league. I find all these young guys to be question marks who haven’t truly gotten a fair shot, and the vets are preventing that by trying to get theirs.

I cringe when I read that we are playing in a meaningless bowl game and it does not matter if we lose. Some even say rather than play someone leaving who gives us the best chance of winning, give another player—who may really be a second rate player who might never substantially contribute—some game experience. I differ and think if they feel that way maybe it is something they should keep to themselves and that watching the game might not be that important to them. I would be shocked if Napier wanted a player or team with the bowl game is not important attitude. I know many passionate fans care deeply if we win or lose any game and are upset whenever the Gators lose, even if it is a basketball game in a long schedule with very little meaning. Some recognize it matters if we have a winning season, that a loss can hurt recruiting, that a loss reflects on our program and the perception of becoming a rising football power. Winning tends to promote a winning culture and effort and work ethic; our poor bowl performance last year may have contributed to the 2021 team attitude and effort and a poor season. It is important to beat a less established but rising state school which is trying to make inroads on our recruiting and to be recognized as a comparable football school. Those who watched football for decades before there were playoffs understood that a bowl game was a highlight of the season and one of the most important games. Many look at how conferences do in bowl games as a reflection of the conference and team strength.
I believe Napier wants to develop a team first attitude rather than individual first, that every game is important and always give your best effort and win. If he instills that attitude and has players appreciating a bowl game as an important and enjoyable reward, we hopefully will not see many players who want to sit out a bowl game or play without great effort. I am in the old school and think the great running back Christian McCafferty did a huge disservice to bowl games when he suddenly made it acceptable to think of yourself first rather than helping the team and it was fine to sit out a bowl game. A player may want to train for a pro career but there is little advantage in losing the bowl training to start pro training a few weeks sooner. I do understand there is a very remote chance of a serious bowl game injury permanently affecting a player with a future pro career but that is a normally accepted football risk—there are many risks in life—and something that could also occur in 12 gamess earlier that year. Where do we eventually draw the line, does a player soon want to sit out the last three games when his team is no longer in contention? Reality is we will each year unfortunately see many more players badly injured in a scooter or auto accident, or by a shooting or fight than those who lose a pro career in a bowl game. I feel players should recognize what the school has done for them and while they are still being supported by the university they should want to help their team win a bowl game and even feel they have a duty to do so. I appreciated all Pitts did for our team but when he sat out the bowl game I had to justify it in my mind by thinking Mullen did not instill that team first mentality and do your best to help while a player is accepting free Gator food and housing and training facilitie. I also felt his sitting out was a normal reaction when he had wanted to play and could have played in the LSU game and Mullen did not allow him to do so and we then lost the game.
I recognize we all have different mindsets, that is natural and fine and I accept and respect those whose opinions differ. I only offer my passionate fan feelings so that some may reflect on whether the I do nit care about the bowl game is the best attitude or one the team should have. Go Gators, and at least I want to see our best effort and have us beat UCF to help move our program forward, I will feel a whole lot better if we win and do so.
